Church Volunteers

It is a rare member of the congregation who does not help out in some way, or in the case of a few of the very aged, helped in the past.  We recently celebrated Volunteer Sunday, and in planning the service, it was necessary to think about all the things people do in order to keep the congregation ‘ticking over.’  This is what we discovered:

Assist with worship: doing the welcome, notices and starting the service; reading Scripture, leading the prayers of the people, greeting people at the door, setting up the church before worship, prepare communion, serve communion, operate the audio-visual system during worship, preparing the flowers, choosing hymns for the pre-service singing, assisting the minister with planning worship, changing the liturgical colours (lectern and altar drapes)
